  • The Policies and Politics of Statistics Independence

The central objective of this research program is to provide an empirical and critical investigation of the issue of statistical independence and of its various dimensions. Notably, through the examination of a large number of cases, we wish to explore the various direct (e.g., legal dispositions) and indirect (e.g., professional norms) means that have been put into place to safeguard independence. On a subset of these, we will examine as well the role of more contextual variables, such as the networks in which NSOs evolve and the strength of the concerned epistemic community. Finally, three countries (Canada, the UK and Greece) have been retained for a more in-depth analysis.
